Welcome
Welcome to Campaigning Through Time, a ‘historum’ for the discussion of military history and the archiving of current events and commemoration. As founders, our goals were to create a community that would last, that would pride itself on purposeful discussion and relaxed moderation, and would ultimately nurture and encourage interest in military history. Working with the University of Kent's Military History Society and their network of students and alumni, we hope to extend military history to all who wish to learn more. All are welcome!

If you are new to our site, have a look at our rules and FAQ, browse our upcoming events, get help with coursework, check out our magazine, peruse our archive, or simply have some fun!

Hey all,

We've expanded massively over the last 3 years and this thread is long overdue! It can be daunting joining a new forum, especially when it is busy and your posts can be lost in the flow.

Show your face and make yourself known here, it's a great way for us to get to know you and welcome you to our forum. Say hello and tell us a bit about yourself? Why do you like military history? How did you find us? We look forward to hearing from you!

The Committee

Starting with me!

Hi, I'm Darkhorse.

I was one of the group of friends who became the founding members of the society at the University of Kent and was Vice President for 2 years, I took over as President for a year and then was happy to hand the role over to Oliver. I co-founded and co-run this forum with Tigerweasel. I'm probably most famous for orchestrating the hiring an M10 Achilles tank destroyer to parade on campus for a day!

I studied War Studies at the university for 3 years and graduated with a good mark, and with some luck will be continuing my studies with an MA in War, Media and Society.

I specialise in armoured warfare, the Falklands Conflict, and modern, expeditionary or future conflicts, although I have a very broad range of subjects I'm interested in from commanders to military sciences.

Hello, I'm Oliver

I am the incumbent President of the Military History Society, whilst Darkhorse the Tank Summoner was on his ascension to post graduate life he ordered the committee to assemble, and with trembling outstretched hand pointed at me and named me his successor. Then came the formality of democratic elections, in which I won in a landslide victory.

I am a second year student at the University of Kent studying History, whilst in my first year I did my best to inconvenience the University as much as possible by changing from History and Politics, to just History.

I specialise mainly in the Occupation of the Channel Islands and fortifications, although I also have an interest in the Middle Ages, (particularly the Dark Ages) and British history; especially naval warfare and small arms.

The ascension of Darkhorse the Tank Summoner into post graduate life, who for some reason was confused with Edward the Confessor by chroniclers,

Image
A scene from the Chronica Militare Historia, depicting Oliver's election victory, In this case they confused Jersey with Normandy and Oliver with Guillaume. These Chroniclers are so damn unreliable, next they'll be telling me elephants have knees (reference to Matthew Paris Chronicle, seen in lecture)

Well hi, I am Agunter

I am a proud Englishman and European, I very much believe in the freedom of nations like the old german and Italian states that are now under one nation. I dislike the EU allot as it control idependent nations far too much, though I do believe a union should be in place

I am a massive fan of uniforms, I could tell you pretty much any uniform there has been though Inam still dicovering new stuff. As mentioned earlier I am greatly into the minor states.

I am not of any significant position here but I am a nice person albeit lacking any sort of conscience. I am not part of their university at all so I am entirly out of that part of it. Ive been a member for a while I just don,'t post much due to my very bad English skills. You know its bad when a croatian offers to be my PR on TWC for my mod due to my bad English, I am not a person who immigrated in an has had to learn the language I am just awful.

Well I think that is all

Hi, I'm Imperator.

I'm originally from Hampshire, but moved into the North Kent/South London area. I went to uni, but in Reading and not Kent, and not for history! I am what could be called a "randomer" on this forum, I dropped in from the interwebs and keep coming back because Darkhorse and Tigerweasel make good coffee.

I like my warships, memes, and I like quizzes, all three of which can be found here!

@Agunter I used had mega trouble with reading and writing, don't feel frightened to post because your English is better that 95% of the internets!

Hi, I'm Tigerweasel.

I'm your friendly neighbourhood admin so if you have any problems, questions or suggestions I'm the person to get in contact with. I co-founded and co-run this forum with Darkhorse.

I've been involved with the society pretty much since the beginning, part of the committee from 2011-2013 and I'm helping out as an advisor to the present committee. I studied philosophy at uni which is proof that you really don't need to be a war studies or history student to be interested in military history and get involved in the society.

My main interests are ethics, naval history and the Napoleonic era.

Hi, I'm Sweet Sorrow

Like Darkhorse and Tigerweasel I have been involved since nearly the beginning though rather informally at the start, I served as treasurer from 2012 - 2013.

As an Undergrad I studied History and Archaeology, I now study as a Research MA student.

Generally I specialise in The History of Madness, Suicide, Medical Ethics and Medical Experimentation.

Hey, I am Fay. I did international relations for undergraduate and I am a second year postgraduate in School of Politics and IR now, doing conflict analysis. I went to the Fayre that day to sign up for MUN and saw a guy in uniform when I was leaving. That is how I found your society.

I am interested in the disputes in the South China Sea and East China Sea, the Second Sino-Japanese War or the Second World War in far east and the war memory or its legacy today (which is the topic of my MA dissertation,) and almost anything about China, Chinese politics and China's foreign policies.

Nice to meet you!

P.S. Sometimes you may see Fei Jiang, it is the pinyin of my name, which I use in all official documents here. I do not see it as my name since my name is in Chinese characters, but I have no choice. Just in case you are confused.

Hey everyone, I'm Tommy_Cooker. If you know me then the name should be enough of a clue as to who I am!

If not: I'm third year War Studies, currently the only serving War Studies Course Rep. Currently researching for a dissertation focused on the Battle of Aubers Ridge (9th May 1915), my specialty is predictably enough the First World War although I'm also keenly interested in the Second World War, armoured warfare, medieval and early modern Europe and any other period that I've played a computer game about. Weaknesses are modern naval warfare (hopefully to be rectified by HI 737 Britain and the Falkland War) and really anything too political or (dare I mention the word?) cultural. I'm really a military historian in the most literal sense! Looking forward to being a bit more involved with the society this year.

Hi All,

I am Tall_Paul. I was a founding member of the UKC Military History Society, and held the Treasurer position in it's first year. I read a BA in War Studies, then an MA in Medieval and Early Modern Studies.

My interest in military history has been primarily in tactics and changes in technology and tactics. I don't really have a favourite period, but I do focus on specific eras such as the late Middle Ages, and Napoleonic Wars. I also am interested in minor nations and forces in conflicts, especially in more modern conflicts.
