Welcome
Welcome to Campaigning Through Time, a ‘historum’ for the discussion of military history and the archiving of current events and commemoration. As founders, our goals were to create a community that would last, that would pride itself on purposeful discussion and relaxed moderation, and would ultimately nurture and encourage interest in military history. Working with the University of Kent's Military History Society and their network of students and alumni, we hope to extend military history to all who wish to learn more. All are welcome!

If you are new to our site, have a look at our rules and FAQ, browse our upcoming events, get help with coursework, check out our magazine, peruse our archive, or simply have some fun!

Registration is fast, simple, and absolutely free, so join the discussion today!

Who are we?

We are a society of students/alumni/associates of the University of Kent, Canterbury, who have a common interest in the study of military history.

Do I have to study War Studies to be a member?

No, we accept people from any course. We have a range of members from those taking War Studies, to Astrophysicists and Philosophers.

I'm a member of History Society, can I join Military History Society as well?

Yes, of course you can. There is no reason why you can't be a member of both societies.

How do I join the society?

Students of the University of Kent can join us by completing the following: Informing us, joining the facebook group and this forum, being active, and logging into the Kent Union Societies website and paying the £5 annual charge.

Alumni, Associate members and those outside of the university follow the same procedure, but log into Kent Union with a guest account, and the charge is a £6 fee to be paid annually.

These prices are the minimum we can charge. There is no obligation to pay every year after joining. You may leave the society whenever you wish, but we cannot refund you.

Where does my money go?

We get the majority of our funding from membership fees. Your money may be used for trip/fuel subsidies, paying for lectures/seminars by guest speakers. Advertising and organising our events, and our social meals. We may also use our funding for other events. The committee take no money for themselves as our work is unpaid. Money raised at charity events is distributed fairly.

What does membership give me?

Access to the Course Help section of the forum, the ability to buy a society hooded top, and the right to go on the majority of our events. This also secures an ID card, granting 10% any time discount in the Bottleshop, a specialist provider of ales, ciders and soft drinks in Canterbury.

Undergraduate members have the right to vote in committee elections, and stand for committee positions in elections.

I am from another place, university, similar society/historical forum, can I use this forum

Yes, the forum is free for anyone to use. We only ask that people put in what you get out. Say you are from a university in Australia, studying military history, and you use one of our articles or our source bank for say an essay the Falklands conflict, then please post something new.

Sharing information allows us to grow and develop, and help the maximum amount of people we can and promote enjoyment

It doesn't matter if you are an academic, member of university staff, student, or an amateur hobbyist, you can all bring something new and interesting to this party.

I heard you are doing a charity event, can I donate?

Yes, please do. Send me a message, and I will give you details on where to post your donation to. We've had donations from as far afield as Slovakia.
